BEN FUND foundation that supports speedway riders in England every year can count on financial support from the local speedway community. For a good cause one of the Englishmen will go on foot to this year’s Grand Prix tournament in Cardiff.

Former rider and mechanic and current supporter John Curtis will set off from the speedway stadium in Ipswich on August 4. He plans to arrive in Cardiff the day before the Grand Prix which is scheduled for August 13th.

Speedway has allowed me, as a rider, mechanic and supporter, to travel around the UK, Europe and Australia. I have met many people, fans, mechanics and riders from all over the world. On August 4, 2022, I plan to leave Foxhall Stadium, home of the Ipswich Witches speedway team, and walk 261 miles (an average of just under 30 miles per day) to The Principality Stadium in Cardiff, where the British Grand Prix round of the World Speedway Championship will take place on Saturday, August 13. I hope we can raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause of supporting riders and their families when they need it most. Speedway is an exciting and dangerous sport. The riders involved put everything on the line every time they take to the track, so it’s good that there is a charity that can support them when the worst happens,” Curtis wrote on the fundraising page.
Its aim is to raise £5,000 to help the affected riders. Just over 300 have been raised so far, link to the fundraiser here.
