Matej Zagar is the next new rider of Speed Car Motor Lublin. The Slovenian comes to the club to replace Andreas Jonsson as a team leader after he retired at the end of the last season. In his first interview as a Motor rider, the 36-year-old sums up his 2018 year and explains the reasons behind his move to the club from Aleje Zygmuntowskie.

Zagar has nice memories of his Lublin visits. In the 2019 season, in his forBET Wlokniarz match against Speed Car Motor he was the best rider of the visiting team. The Ljubljana born rider scored 11+1 and rescued a draw for the Lions.

– I start by saying how happy I am that I have come here. When I came here with Wlokniarz I have realised a couple of things. First of all, I was doing pretty well on this track. Second of all, it’s not a coincidence that the club has such a great reputation. Lastly, the fans are creating such an amazing atmosphere. I can assure them that I will do everything in my powers to give them a lot of reasons to be happy and cheerful. Talking about the contract and my transfer it was all very straightforward with Jakub Kepa. When you have two level headed people meeting together there are no issues with reaching agreement – said Zagar on the clubs official website.

Season 2018 was not perfect for Zagar. The 36-year-old had a slow start to the year and it was only at the end of the season he started showing his true colours. In the end, he managed to score a 1,692 average in PGE Ekstraliga and finished 9th at the Grand Prix.

– Overall I am quite disappointed as I had higher hopes for the season 2019. It wasn’t to be. I have made some changes at the end of the season and I think I can be happy for that part. In my opinion, it’s more important how you finish the season than how you start it. Nevertheless, I want to be consistent all year in 2020 as this also significant. Looking back at the year I am happy to have won the bronze medal with Czestochowa. In the third-place playoff over two legs I have scored 24 points which I think is a decent effort – admitted forBET Włokniarz Czestochowa’s ex-rider.

The Slovenians counts on his consistency and he hopes he can quickly get to grips with tricky Lublin track, that still causes problems for many riders.

– For sure I hope that my scores will be regularly high from start to finish. The way I have ended the just finished year I think I know which direction to go. My plan is to come here to Lublin early next year and practice a lot before the season starts. I have my training plan sorted and it is the same for many years and I stick to it, I have been riding for many years and have a lot of experience. This is the reason why I hope it won’t take long for me to get used to this track and work on my setups. I really want to show my best possible form, but only at home, on other tracks too. I’m only focusing on PGE Ekstraliga and Speedway Grand Prix in the forthcoming season, nothing else matters for me. – added Speed Car Motor’s new rider.
