After about 18 months since the last speedway match took place in Denmark, yesterday saw the return of the Metal League. Even though no audiences were allowed, all of Denmark’s top riders are registered with a club following Ekstraliga’s rule that you may only take part in one league outside Poland. The only exception is Leon Madsen, who like a number of SGP riders, has chosen to only race for one team at club level.

So last night saw all the Danish riders in the Ekstraliga racing on home shale, except Mikael Mikkelsen, who did not race for Slangerup, allowing Michael Jepsen Jensen take the A rider position for the club.

The results saw comfortable victories for GKS Liga (Kenneth Bjerre) and Holsted Tigers (Nicki Pedersen) whilst SES (Anders Thomsen) and Slangerup took closely fought contests.

But despite the best of Danish talent racing last night, it was Finland’s Timo Lahti (pictured) who scored the highest with 19 pts for NES as they lost heavily away at GSK Liga. Lahti scored more that the rest of the team put togher and was the only rider to win his joker heat in Denmark in Round 1, given him double points for his Heat 7 win when he beat both Bjerre and the in form, Patrick Hansen.
