A Dane Abroad

30 year old Dane, has not raced in his home country since 2017 where he had been was a regular at Esbjerg Vikings for many years. The decision to race just in the UK paid off and since then he has switched up to be primarily competing in the Premiership with Kings Lynn Stars as well as taking matches in the Championship too.

He finished the 2019 season with a 1.781 P+B/H average putting him in 19th place overall, just a couple of places behind Adam Ellis (UK) and Jacob Thorssell (SWE) but ahead of U21 rider, Daniel Bewley (UK) and the experienced Rohan Tungate (AUS).

A season ending crash

But a major crash when racing for Redcar ended his season as he was out with a fractured back. In at match at Newcastle he slowed up unexpectedly in a deep pile of shale. His teammate, who was just behind, has no choice, and road straight over the unlucky Dane. “Definitely the worse thing about my season,” he says with a grimace.

The year that was not

Palm Toft, who also goes by the nickname, “Speedy”, was planning to move to Peterborough Panthers for 2020 as well as doubling up by taking rides in the Championship for Redcar Bears. With the Coronavirus kicking in the then 29-year-old had to have a different approach to pre-season preparation, “I’ve been riding my mountain bike and doing some fitness”, he said.

But in July, Speedway GB was forced to give up its dream of having live racing in the country and the season was cancelled.

The Dane was trying to look at it positively, “I’ve had a lot of time with my girlfriend and my kids. Now it is just looking forward to next season. My goals are the same – to up my averages in both leagues and try to become a heat leader at Peterborough. Other than that, I would love to race in Denmark, Sweden and Poland”.
