After a long and very drawn out process, 2019 U21 World Champion and Wroclaw rider, Maksym Drabik was today suspended for one year for doping by POLADA.

It was way back in 22 September 2019 in the semi finals of the Ekstraliga that the then 21 year old Pole failed a doping test during the best season of his career in both Ekstraliga and Elitserien.

Drabik admitted to taking a legal vitamin injection administered by the club’s doctor. But the Pole was found to have 5 times the legal amount in his system.

He then had his retroactive application for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) denied and therefore a ban was almost certainly inevitable. However, it in the end it was not four years as initially thought.

In recent years TUEs have faced heavy scrutiny from the anti-doping agencies, especially after revelations that world famous American cycling, Lance Armstrong, had falsified and backdated TUEs as one of many ways to get away with doping throughout his career.

The ban will be backdated to the date his temporary suspension started 30 October 2020 and will expire on 31 October 2021, whilst he can officially practice from 30 August this year.
